Roaccutane 20 mg -  The other name is accutane. It is a drug for acne. Those who have heavy acne problems use this drug. It has heavy side effects. Roaccutane is used to treat severe recalcitrant nodular acne (a certain type of severe acne) that has not been helped by other treatments, such as antibiotics. Roaccutane belongs to a group of medicines called retinoids, which are similar to vitamin A. Roaccutane taken by mouth works by reducing the production of the skins natural oil (sebum). There are many different types of medicines used to treat acne but Roaccutane is used for more severe cases. Roaccutane is given to people when their previous treatments for acne have not been successful. The formation of blackheads or whiteheads is stoped by this drug and also the size of the sebaceous glands and the inflammation that occurs with acne is reduced by Roaccutane. Your acne may worsen at the start of treatment, but this usually subsides within 7 to 10 days of continued treatment.  While you are using this, it is important to protect the skin from the effects of UV light. You should use a sun screen that has a minimum sun protection factor of 15. While you are using this drug your skin can be more fragile or sensitive. It may cause the bones to stop growing too soon in teenagers.  Isotretinoin causes major birth defects (serious malformations of a developing foetus) if taken during pregnancy. People taking this medicine must not donate blood during treatment, and for at least four weeks after stopping treatment.

The recommended dose of Isotretinoin is 0.5 to 2 mg per kg of body weight daily. It is used  in two divided doses for 15-20 weeks in a day. It should be taken with food in order to improve its absorption. It should not be taken  more or less of it or it shoul be taken  more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Some side-effects may be serious while others may only be a mild inconvenience. Everyone's reaction to a medicine is different.
